Shah Amanat ( 3rd Karnaphuli ) bridge is built with RubyCement

Long desired Shah Amanat ( 3rd Karnaphuli ) Bridge in Chittagong is going to be opened for public use on the 8 September 2010. Sheikh Hasina, the honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is going to inaugurate the bridge which is currently the most modern extra-dosed cable system bridge in the country.

This 950 meter long and 24.47 meter wide bridge has been exclusively built with RubyCement using comparatively less pillars for the very first time in Bangladesh. The bridge has four (two on each side) lanes on both sides for high speed traffic, 1.5 meter wide road for low speed traffic e.g. rickshaw, van, bi-cycle and so on, and 1.5 meter wide walkway on both sides for pedestrians. The bridge has 0.5 kilometer connecting road to the city end and 1 kilometer road to the Potia end. China based construction agent Major Bridge Engineering Company has constructed the bridge under direct supervision of Bangladesh Roads & Highways Department. As the bridge is being opened just before Eid, it will be very convenient for the passengers traveling from Chittagong to South Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, and many other places.

It’s worth mentioning that most of the remarkable infrastructures in Bangladesh have been constructed exclusively with RubyCement or ScanCement e.g. Mohakhali fly-over, Bijoy Sarani-Tejgaon Railway Overpass, Lalon Shah (Pakshi) Bridge, Gulshan-Banani link Bridge, Chittagong’s first flyover (under-construction) and so on.
